Englischer Garten

Munich

Englischer Garten is a huge public park situated in Munich, Germany.  Lots of people probably think that Central Park of New York is the greatest  “green area “ on planet and no other park can be compared to it. Wrong. This German city has a big “ public “ treasure still unknown for many of us.

Englischer Garten is a 3,7 km²  “natural space” that extends from the heart of Munich to its outskirts and is one of the biggest parks in the world. This huge garden take its name from a particular kind of garden created with a technique which place natural and artificial elements close together : the model are English landscape Gardens. The Chinese Tower and a neo-classical temple called “ Monopteros “ are just two of the beauties of this wonderful greenspace. Moreover Englischer Garten do not forget German Traditions :  there you can find lots of biergarten too ( spaces where you can drink beer ).

Summer or Winter is much the same : with its wonderful lawns, trees and streams, here lots of activities can be done! In summer people usually sunbathes ( there is a nudists area too ) .  While in winter people do ice-skating. Walking, cycling, boating and even surfing are just few of the possibilities this place offers.

Their Creation started in 1789 and was linked to the will of Carl Theodore to give to German cities military gardens. That happened in Munich too : then he decided to open part of this garden to the public and this public part was planned by Royal Gardener Friedrich Ludwig Sckell. In 1792 the park opened to be finally enjoyed by people of Munich.

Cleanliness and safety are the best qualities that make this place Germany ‘s first public Garden and one of the most popular spaces both for tourists and resident.
