MILLENNIUM PARK
MILLENIUM PARK initially was called "Lakefront Millennium Park". It is a part of the largest park in downtown Chicago, one of the biggest public park in the world,as well as a showcase for postmodern architecture . Millenium Park is a public park located in the Loopcommunity area of Chicago in Illinois, USA. It is a prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5-acre (9.9 ha) section of northwestern Grant Park.
The principal park's element is JAY PRITZKER PAVILLON, designed by Frank Gehry; it is a hall with 5000 seats and externally there is a large lawn.
In AT & T Plaza there is a sculpture: CLOUD GATE, designed by Anish Kapoor.
One of the principal attractions of this place is The Crown Fountain. It is an interactive work of public art and video sculpture, named in honor of Chicago's Crown family and designed by Catalan conceptual artist Jaume Plensa.
Most beautiful is BP PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE, which connected Millenium Park with Daley Bicentennial Plaza.
Has been of the mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley, the ambitious idea to realize what has initially been conceived by Daniel Burnham a plan for the future in Chicago. This park is one of the greatest public parks and is considerated the greatest garden of the world , having been built on the summit of a railroad and on great parking lot.
The planning is initiated in the month of October 1997, the construction has had beginning in the month of October 1998 and has finally been completed in July 2004, even if some elements of the park have suffered updatings for other years. Millennium Park has been inaugurated during a ceremony July 16 th 2004; 300.000 people have taken part to the great party of opening.
