Covent Garden was originally the garden of the monks of Westminster Abbey, which was bought by the Earls of Bedford.

In 1631, the fourth Earl of Bedford commissioned the famous architect Inigo Jones to design a square, which was accomplished in four years in a rectangular shape.

Since 1661, the Russell allowed amarket for fruit, vegetables and flowers, which soon became the largest in England.

All thisuntil 1974, when the movement of the market for flowers, fruit and vegetables south of the Thames endangered the configuration of the area, given its centrality would be thei deal place to speculate by building office buildings.

There were many protests by local residents, artists and architects, who led the authorities to redevelop the area, so they decided the renovation of existing facilities.

Today the area is lively and pedestrian, a market hall, a gallery on two floors where you can find shops filled with colorful souvenirs, gifts or even for collectors, markets, antique shops, an amazing variety of bars, cafes and restaurants, Apple Craft Market.

Orthere are the hawkers waffles, English specialties to be enjoyed while sitting at the table, while below the stairs of the opera or the violinist will perform.

In short, the cultural and entertainment options are varied, including traditional specialty shops, and numerous performances by street artists.

“COVENT GARDEN”

London is the capital of United Kingdom. It is a metropolis and is full of all the cultures and ethnic groups. It’s a very big city, and is often attended by millions of tourists. London has a great historic and artistic centre. Museums, monuments, ancient buildings are the favourite destinations of   people come from all over the world.

The most famous centre for street artists is “Covent Garden”.

In the beginning the name was “Convent Garden” for the presence of the garden of a convent.  After, the area was used as fruit and vegetable market.

Recently, restaurants, museums, shops, pubs and bars are born here making the place really interesting.

Covent Garden is in the centre of London, it is well linked with Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar square and Leicester square.

The street artists are a good attraction for citizens and tourists.

In the south of the area there are a lot of  elegant buildings, theatres and entertainment facilities, including the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and the London Transport Museum. The Royal Opera House is one of the most important palace.

Covent Garden makes a really good impression. It is like a magic place full of art and crazy people making the area apparently out of rules.
