The Grand Place is the square of the city center of Brussels . It is surrounded by homes of corporations , the Hotel de Ville (town hall) and the Maison du Roi . It is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful squares in the world. La Grande Place in Brussels has been entered in the 1998 list of World Heritage 's UNESCO.

Main buildings

The Town Hall was built by 1402 and 1455 . The ' architect is probably the original Jacob Van Thienen . The tower , in 1454, the Gothic style is due to the architect Jan van Ruysbroeck . At its summit is a statue of St. Michael the Archangel , the patron saint of the city of Brussels, which fights the dragon in 1454 to work Marten van Rode .

La Maison du Roi (King's House) was from the twelfth century building in a wood where he sold bread. A memory of the original function has remained in the name in Flemish. The wooden building was replaced during the fifteenth century by one in stone , for administrative services of the Duke of Brabant . In the eighteenth century the building was completely restored in a Gothic late.

Gabled palaces on the Grand Place

Four of the buildings gable rebuilt in stone by the guild of merchants in 1700, after the original wooden buildings were destroyed by the bombing of Francesco del 1695.
