The High line Park is a public park elevated above the streets on Manhattan's west side. The special grade of this park is that it is built on an historic rail. The rail called "High Line" was built in 1930s to remove dangerous trains from the streets but this great infrastructure wasn't used since 1980. For this reason ,in 1999, it was decided to demolish it, but local residents managed to stop the demolition with the help of the City of New York so they preserved and maintained the structure as an elevated public park. Local residents was so called "Friends of the High Line".

The historic rail became so a park along miles that crosses the city. The progect of the construction started in 2006 thanks to the competition won by the group "field operations". This great progect was divided into three sections: the first section opened June 9, 2009; the second section opened in spring, 2011 while the third section is projected to open in the future.

The main features of this park is its location, but the most important feature is that you can see performances by artists and also the use of  a botanical vegetation type, characteristic of very few parks. Now The High Line Park is the symbol of the battle won against the demolition of historic rail.
